A hosted or cloud security service is a service in the cloud. Web and e-mail security as a service are typical examples. The product is situated in the hosted provider's data centre. Your company will direct it's e-mail or web traffic to the hosted service for filtering inbound and outbound traffic.

MSSP's not only provide a hosted service but also look after your security requirements. They will respond to alerts, check your company for vulnerabilites, monitor your network 24/7 and so on. It's basically a full blown service ensuring your business is secure. They may also provide you with internet services. An example would be providing you with an MPLS network connecting back into their backbone network which is protected behind a firewall and IPS system which they manage and monitor.
