backup vendors tend to support common key backup utilities/features such as the use of Continuous Data Protection (CDP), Data Duplication, Backup of various application such as SQL, MS Exchange and backup of virtual environments like VMware and HyperV.

Some backup vendors specialise further. For example Veeam specialises in backup for VMware only and therefore provides that further level of granularity for VMware environments.
